Chapter 1
- be able to read a periodic table
- identify atomic number, mass number on the periodic table
- explain the structure of an atom (p,e,n)
- define isotope, ion, cation and anion
- explain how  molecular and ionic compounds are formed

Chapter 2
- name ionic and molecular compounds
- explain properties of ionic and molecular compounds
- describe the properties of acids and bases
- explain how pH of a substance can be determined (types of chemical indicators and colours)
- define acid and bases
- name acids


Chapter 3
- describe types of evidence of a chemical reaction
- explain what is a precipitate
- explain how you can predict the solubility of a substance
- be able to read the solubility chart on p.88
- explain the difference between an exothermic and endothermic reaction
- explain what does the law of conservation of mass state
- be able to balance an equation
- identify types of chemical reactions
- differentiate between a complete combustion and incomplete combustion reaction
- explain how to calculate the molar mass of an element and compound
- determine the number of moles in a given mass of a substance
