Presenations start on Monday December 12th-13th

Topics

2.1 Water Cycle (p.34-40)
  1. Samar and Yasmine
Include the following topics in your presentation:
  • include some interesting water facts
  • explain chemical structure of water (polar molecule, hydrogen bonds) and purpose of structure
  • explain purpose of hydrogen bonds (boiling point, melting point, density of water, heat capacity)
  • explain difference between cohesion and adhesion of water molecules
  • explain hydrologic cycle (condensation, evaporation, transpiration, surface runoff, fresh water storage, precipitation, evapotranspiration and infiltration)
  • you might want to do a quick water experiment
  • How can we protect clean water supply?

Videos:
  1. water
  2. song
2.2 Carbon and Oxygen Cycle (p.43-46)
  1. Leena
  2. Raffy
Include the following topics in your presentation:
  • explain the difference between the slow  and the rapid cycling of  carbon
  • explain the carbon and oxygen cycle (see p. 43)
  • explain what stores carbon and what releases carbon
  • How are plants and animals involved in the cycling of carbon?
  • What are the major carbon sinks on the Earth?
  • Explain how each of the following human activities can affect the carbon cycling: deforastation, buring of fossil fuels and agriculture
2.2 Sulfur Cycle (p.46-48)
  1. Salman and Abdulahi
Include the following topics in your presentation:
  • describe sulfur (What is it? Where is it found? What is the purpose of it? How does it look like?)
  • explain the entire sulfur cycle (p. 47)
  • explain the purpsose of sulfur for organsims
  • explain where sulfurus smell comes from
  • explain role of bacteria in sulfur cycle
  • explain cause of acid rain
  • How do human activities release sulfur into the atmosphere and how can it be reduced?
2.2 Nitrogen Cycle (p.48-49)
  1. Omar
  2. Sumaya
Include the following topics in your presentation:
  • describe nitrogen (What is it? Where is it found? What is the purpose of it? How does it look like?)
  • explain entire nitrogen cycle (include role of bacteria)
  • explain nitrogen fixation, ammonification and denitrification
  • explain what menas crop rotation and purpose of it
2.2 Phosphorus Cycle (p.49-50)
  1. Muqaiba
  2. Rubina
Include the following topics in your presentation:
  • describe phosphorus (What is it? Where is it found? What is the purpose of it? How does it look like?)
  • explain how is phosphorus transported through the biosphere
  • explain phosphorus cycle
  • explain what is algal bloom
  • explain eutrophication
  • How do humans increase build up of phosphous into ecosystems? Is it a good thing or not? Explain.

Criteria

On your own or with a partner, you will be responsible to teach an assigned topic from chapter two to the entire class.

1. Create a PPT, Google slide or Prezi (max. 10 minutes)
  • teach, not read the topic to the class
  • content needs to be accurate and understandable
  • presentation has large font (size 20), only bulletin points, no long sentences
  • presentation has pictures, short video (no longer than 4 minutes)
  • incorporate in your presentation three slides with questions to check students understanding. Create either a multiple choice, true and false or short asnwer quesions.

2. Create a Handout
  • summarize content in one-two pages
  • include picture of cycle
  • don't copy information from text book, paraphrase and have bulletin points
  • send finsihed handout to teacher on Sunday December 11th

3. Create an Activity (max. 5 minutes)
  • After presenting your topic, you will do an activity with the class.
  • Activity can be a quick game, matching cards, online game etc.
  • see your teacher for more help and ideas
