In this project you will paint on a small canvas a landscape that shows depth by atmosphere.

Criteria
For this assignment it is best to look at some landscape photos or paintings, although it is fine to make up a fantasy landscape if you are so inclined. You can work from a photograph that shows atmospheric perspective. 

Contrast:
  • Use a highly contrasting image for the foreground. It should have high contrast within it and contrast with its surroundings in your image.
  • As the scene goes farther back, use less and less contrast. Be aware of a highly contrasting background with a softer middle ground.

Color:
  • Keep the foreground bright and warm in color.
  • The background should be the dullest and coolest in color.
  • Be careful of warm colors in the background since they will want to come forward.

Focus:
  • Make the foreground the sharpest in the image,
  • the middle ground the next sharpest and
  • the background the dullest (less intense colours, less brightness

Details:
  • Use an object for the foreground that has a lot of details.

In this project you will create a painting of an everyday object that portrays today's popular culture. Your painting needs to be done in the pop-art style of Burton Morris.

Due date:  Wednesday November 4th


Criteria

Your painting needs to meet the following criteria:
  1. Choose an every day object that portrays today's popular culture (food, clothing, candy, cartoon, car, mobile device, technology item...)
  2. Pop-art style; use vibrant, vivid colours, include black outlines, black triangles on sides
  3. Artwork should be positive, energetic and fun to look at 
  4. Make Large drawing of object(s), include text (ex.: name of product, ;labels etc.)
  5. Use acrylic paint
  6. Think outside the box to make it your own interpretation of  Burton Morris pop-art style. BE CREATIVE! :)

Project #3: Soft Pastel Still Life

In this project you will learn to draw a still life using soft pastels and apply two compositional rules.
Due date: October 9th, 2015

Assessment Criteria

  • In your sketchbook practice drawing different types of vases, bottles, bowls and cups 
  • Use soft pastels to draw a still life of vases
  • Apply rules of odds (either draw three or five objects) and asymmetrical balance
  • Draw three or five different types of vases, bottles, bowls and cups
  • At least on object needs to overlap another one
  • Draw objects in correct proportion 
  • Create an interesting arrangement of the objects
  • Show contrast between background and still life
  • Apply correct value techniques and shadow

Project #2: "All About me"

In this project you will create a pencil drawing of four items that you like. Divide the paper in four equal squares. In each square draw a close up of the item that you like. Use appropriate shading and belnding techniques.

You can choose items from the following categories:
Technology, food, clothing, shoes, school supplies, games, sports, animal
